How to get to the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale)

Located right on St. Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace is easily reached by vaporetto, water taxi, or a scenic walk through Venice’s winding alleys.

By Train

From Venezia Santa Lucia station, take vaporetto line 1 or 2 along the Grand Canal to San Marco stop — just steps from the palace.

By Car

Cars are not allowed in Venice’s historic center. Park at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, then continue by vaporetto or on foot.

By Bus

From Mestre or the mainland, take a bus to Piazzale Roma, then switch to a vaporetto bound for San Marco.

On Foot

From the Rialto Bridge, stroll through the narrow streets and follow signs to Piazza San Marco — the palace dominates the lagoon-side corner.

Doge’s Palace

The Bridge of Sighs

Walk the same bridge that once led prisoners from the courtroom to their cells — one of Venice’s most haunting views.

The Golden Staircase

Marvel at the gilded ceilings and refined Renaissance artistry of the grand staircase once reserved for nobles.

The Great Council Chamber

Admire Tintoretto’s vast ‘Paradise’ painting — one of the world’s largest oil canvases — surrounded by ornate wooden carvings.
